ATLETICO MADRID are growing increasingly resigned to losing Thomas Partey to Arsenal this summer, according to reports.
The 27-year-old has secured himself in Diego Simeone’s starting XI over the last three seasons attracting interest from around Europe in the process.
And according to Spanish outlet Cope, some Atletico chiefs have “given up” on the Ghanaian remaining at Wanda Metropolitano.
The report also names Arsenal as the team most likely to capture his signature.
Partey came through the club’s academy, before making his debut in 2015 and going on to make 175 appearances to date.
Thomas primarily plays the role of regaining possession for his side, as well as carrying the ball and moving it nicely.
Atletico would be sorry to see him go but his international team-mate Joseph Larweh Attamah has encouraged him to take the leave.
Attamah, 26, told Ghanaian channel Citi TV: “I would be happy if he goes to Arsenal.
“He’s done everything at Atletico, and is recognised as one of the world’s best midfielders.
“He has to go to another league to prove himself. He needs people to know he is capable of succeeding outside of Spain.”
Reports in Spain suggests that before the coronavirus crisis, the North Londoners were ready to stump up his £43.5million release clause.
Given the financial implications of the virus and impact on the market, limited funds could prove a stumbling block for the cash-strapped Gunners.
However, the Emirates camp are reportedly willing to turf out a number of big names – including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil – to make room for new arrivals like Partey.
